Our Directors

Matt Frankel and Mike Green met at camp in 1983 and they’ve been friends ever since.

After college, graduate schools and jobs in the corporate world, they decided to buy a camp in 2009. Together – along with 150 of the best staff members you’ll ever see – they run Briarwood Day Camp.

Mike and Matt want kids to experience the same great things that they did at camp – fun, friends, excitement, adventure, great counselors and the feeling of not being able to wait until the next day of camp.

Susan Garber is Briarwood’s Associate Director, Busy Bee Director and Coordinator of Just About Everything That Is Awesome at Briarwood. Susan’s professional background is in education and early childhood development. Susan taught in the Council Rock School District and she also spent many years teaching and running area preschools.

Susan began at Briarwood as a counselor in our Busy Bee program for three to five year olds in 2010. She loves to watch “her” kids grow to be lower campers, upper campers, CITs and staff! In the offseason (and sometimes during off hours in the summer), you’ll find Susan planning our summer trips, leading camper play dates, coordinating camper health forms and doing anything and everything that helps Briarwood run so smoothly and allow us to provide children with summers that they’ll never forget.

Susan loves this quote by Kay Redfield Jamison (and so does all of Briarwood!): “Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.”
