It was yet another amazing week! (Can you believe it? Actually, we can.)
Color War ended spectacularly, as always. We have such tremendous campers and staff. Congratulations to the Blue Ice!
We wanted to highlight something about our Color War events because it is at the core of our philosophy. Our activities are designed so that every camper is involved and gets to shine. Through a wide variety of events, different campers kick, swim, dance, run, throw, sing, climb, run, carry, pour water (it’s a long story) and—most importantly—cheer for each other and have fun all over camp. It’s wonderful, positive, affirming stuff. And what a great display of friendship, togetherness and family we had after today’s Songfest! We’ve got so many awesome things planned for next week (see below for just a taste). Can’t wait!

The Drama Club Proudly Presents Cinderella
by Melissa Rubinlicht and Traci Walter

Our 2019 production of Disney’s Cinderella Kids will make its debut on Tuesday, August 13th at the Briarwood Stage. Our amazing cast tells the story of Cinderella (Jordyn) as she struggles to be treated fairly by her stepmother (Emily) and stepsisters Anastasia (Hailey) and Drizella (Amelia). When a town crier (Delilah) announces that a ball at the castle will be held so that all the unmarried ladies can meet Prince Charming (Jacob), Cinderella’s hope is restored. With the help of her Fairy Godmother (Avanley) and mice friends, Gus (Julia), Luke (Juliana), Jaq (Madison), and Perla (Dakota), Cinderella attends the ball. As our narrators (Chloe and Mollie) tell the story, Cinderella meets the Queen (Brynn), Grand Duchess (Haley) and Herald (McKenzie). Join us Tuesday at 10:30am to find out if dreams really do come true!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
This week we feature more of our amazing staff.
LIZ ARTEAGA is celebrating her 5th summer at Briarwood Day Camp. This summer, Liz can be found assisting our wonderful nurse, Carmen Blum. Liz, a graduate of Ithaca College, works as an instructional aide at a middle school during the off season. Her favorite things about camp are the people and carnival! People would be surprised to learn that she once did the twist on stage with Chubby Checker!
CARMEN BLUM joins the Briarwood family as our outstanding camp nurse. Carmen has three campers at Briarwood that are loving their new summer home. Carmen, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, enjoys hiking, skiing, gardening and crochet. If she could travel anywhere she would go to China.
ALEX LEAN makes his triumphant return to Briarwood Day Camp to celebrate his 17th summer. Alex, senior counselor to the Cougars, recently graduated from West Chester University. Alex enjoys coaching and playing soccer. Alex’s favoring thing about camp is the amazing campers and staff. If he could go anywhere in the world he would go to Europe to watch soccer.
JACK SORKIN returns to Briarwood Day Camp for his 7th summer. This summer, Jack, a sophomore at Penn State, is the senior counselor of the Cobras (and Counselor of the Week!). Jack enjoys eating Chinese food and watching Curb Your Enthusiasm. His favorite thing about Briarwood, besides the croutons, is his awesome bunk.

Did you know . . . that we have a babysitter list for Briarwood families? If you’re interested, email us at office@briarwooddaycamp.com and we’ll send it to you when camp ends next week.

Don’t forget – we will dismiss at 2:30 pm on Friday, August 16 and we will not have after care that day. Please make a note!
