Briarwood Bugle 2021 Week 7
From Mike and Matt It was yet another amazing week! (Can you believe it? Actually, we can.)
Color War ended spectacularly, as always. A smiling good time was had by all. Congratulations to the Gold Halloween!
We wanted to highlight something about our Color War events because it is at the core of our philosophy. Our activities are designed so that every camper is involved and gets to shine. Through a wide variety of events, different campers kick, swim, dance, run, throw, sing, climb, run, carry, pour water (it’s a long story) and—most importantly—cheer for each other and have fun all over camp. It’s wonderful, positive, affirming stuff. And even in this crazy year, our amazing campers and staff showed us again what camp is really all about. We’ve got so many awesome things planned for next week (see below for just a taste). Can’t wait!
Whooo are the Owls? By Lily Goldberg and Lindsay Tammaro
Welcome to the Owls bunk! Briarwood knows WHOOO we are when they see all 20 of our smiling faces around camp. These 4th grade girls are a special group, we have dancers, athletes, and artists. The talents are endless as Charley, Makayla, and Abigail are perfecting their Tickle- t- touch at instructional swim. Stella N, Hannah, and Sara were this year’s Mini-golf tournament champions and are still getting holes in one each week. In the art room, you can find Emily and Delilah working on their masterpieces while Clara is working on new gimp stitches. Sydney is ziplining through the camp at rockwall and Shayla is scoring goal after goal on the soccer field. Maddie T is excelling in Bag of Bones and Frogger at tennis and Chloe catching newcomb balls all over camp, even with one hand. Brielle and Avery are perfecting their clay skills in ceramics and Stella U and Emma can be found dribbling on the basketball court perfectly. While Maddie J and Ariella are flipping and showing off their amazing tricks in gymnastics, you can find Minna running for the Gaga court and winning the Gaga tournament. We have been having the best summer and we can’t wait for one more awesome week of camp!
The Hawks are Flying Out in Style! By Stu Berman
The Hawks have had an electric summer so far, and with one week to go, we are excited to share a few more memories along the way. Color War had an amazing atmosphere and every day we had more and more fun with our events. Brett took home the crown in the gaga tournament facing off against Mark, Cam, Ben, and Liam in the final. Trevor, Logan, and Lucas C. have looked more like fish than Hawks the way they have been swimming in the Color War relays. Lucas K., Ayden and Vinny love relaxing and having fun in the sun at every period we have (the jumper has some nice cloud watching spots). It has been a truly amazing seven weeks of camp, and every day this bunk has grown closer and closer together. Junior Counselor Max Walinsky and I have been lucky enough to experience another tremendous summer at Briarwood with these amazing campers, and we are going to make sure the last week is just as great as the first seven.

Color War Winner is…

HANNAH WIND is celebrating her 12th summer at Briarwood Day Camp. Hannah, a student at Lehigh University, is Senior Counselor of the Cheetahs. Hannah’s favorite thing about camp is spending time with her friends and awesome campers. People would be surprised to learn that Hannah has been to Alaska and carved her name in a glacier!
SORELLE SAX has made Briarwood her summer home for 12 seasons. During the off season, Sorelle is a student Penn State University. Sorelle is Senior Counselor of the Foxes. If she were an animal she would be a kitten. If Sorelle could travel to anywhere in the world, she would travel to Bora Bora. Sorelle’s favorite food is Chipotle.
JAKE BERGER joins the Briarwood family for his first summer! During the off season, Jake is a student at Lehigh University studying International Relations and Economics. Jake’s favorite food is sushi. If he were an animal, Jake would be a goldfish. If he could travel anywhere in the world, Jake would go to Whoville!
MADDIE GARBER is celebrating her 11th summer at Briarwood Day Camp. Maddie is a student at West Virginia University. She is studying Social Work, Psychology and Criminology. Maddie’s favorite thing about Briarwood are the awesome people. People would be surprised to learn that Maddie has been to over 50 concerts!

SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS
• If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day. Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.
• Don’t forget to send your camper in with several masks each day. They have a way of disappearing (or breaking or getting dirty).
• Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.
• While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
• Everyone should apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
• We have a lost and found at camp. It gets pretty full this time of year. Campers’ items should be marked or labeled before they come to camp.
• Did you miss a Bugle? You can find all of this summer’s Bugles in the News section of our website.
