Briarwood Bugle 2023
Week 5
From Mike and Matt
It has been another amazing week at spectacularly awesome Briarwood Day Camp! S’mores Week was a hit. We had 3 on 3 basketball tournaments throughout most of the week and Wednesday’s Lower Camp Crazy Hat Parade was crazy . . . and funny . . . and great! The Super CITs had an awesome day at the beach and loved their trip to Hershey Park and — on top of everything else — our “regular” camp stuff continued to amaze and astound! We ended the week with Goofy Day today and, well, it certainly earned its name!
It continues to be fantastic to see so many smiling, laughing kids all around camp.
Next week is the Busy Bee Show—always a crowd pleaser featuring Briarwood’s cutest! Carnival is next week, too. The fun continues! Have a great weekend!
The PERFECT Panthers! By: Sydney Roberts
Briarwood Day Camp is a better place because of our awesome 7th grade girls! We have had an enchanted summer so far and cannot wait to continue singing and dancing to Taylor Swift in every gaga pit around camp! The Panthers have created many unforgettable memories together throughout the first five weeks of camp. In gymnastics, Dani mastered her first ever aerial flip; the whole bunk cheered her on! Grace continues to impress the panthers with her ziplining skills at rockwall. In tennis, Joely shows the Panthers her powerful swing and dominates during Bag of Bones! Congratulations to Lucy for being the winner of manhunt during 7th grade fun! Brynn found her groove and took control on the court during leagues when we played West Chester Volleyball! In ceramics, Delilah has done a fabulous job sculpting and painting her projects. The Panthers thrive all throughout camp and this week Elle dominated the boys in dodgeball with her strong throw and perfect aim. The Panthers love to try new things all around camp! Performing cheerleading stunts in the pool has been a skill that Taylor, Gemma and Addison have all perfected. When traveling around camp you will see Audrey with her impressive talents and positive attitude leading the bunk in Big Ball Volleyball. The Panthers LOVE to laugh together, Torie and Sierra bring upbeat energy to the group and tell funny stories throughout the day! Lizzie (JC) Bri (SuperCIT) and I are so beyond lucky to spend the summer with the BEST bunk in camp!
BRIARWOOD STAFF MEMBERS OF THE WEEK:

Congratulations!
Hanging Around at Ropes and Rockwall – By: Stu Kavitsky
From Busy Bees to Super CITs, campers are challenging themselves to climb to new heights. Some are eager to launch themselves down the zipline while others contemplate how they are going to get back down. Other campers conquering the route from the tire swings to the net bridge… our campers always find innovative ways to address each obstacle and find that “perfect balance.” Whether they climb to the top or just get a few feet off the ground, our campers build their skills and their confidence and there is always a sense of accomplishment . . . that is what it is all about!!
PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAMP IF HE/SHE is NOT FEELING WELL

MEET OUR WONDERFULLY AMAZING STAFF! PART V
We return with profiles of more of our spectacular senior staff members
NICHOLLE NEELANS is the senior counselor of the Cubs This is her first summer at Briarwood and we are happy to have her as a part of our Busy Bee staff! During the off season she works at a preschool. Nicholle’s favorite thing about camp is that she is able to be outside all day! If she could go anywhere in the world it would be Cinque Terre in Italy. Most people don’t know that Nicholle has lived in 4 parts of the country, North (MN), South (TX), East Coast (PA) and West Coast (WA).
LISA ANTENUCCI has been a Briarwood lifeguard for the past 3 summers! During the offseason, she works as an instructional aid with special needs kids. Lisa’s favorite tv show is Instant Family. If she could be any animal she would be a fish (which, as a lifeguard, is great!). Lisa wants the world to know that she loves working at Briarwood with her pool staff! Lisa also enjoys being able to spend the summer with her daughter. And she loves watching all the kids laugh and have so much fun!
Briarwood Presents: The Little Mermaid Gymnastics Show! By Rebecca Nahom
Briarwood’s Gymnastics Show is coming up next week! The kids who are in the show have been in gymnastics club all summer and they can’t wait to show off their new skills. Our theme is The Little Mermaid and all the fantastic sea creatures will wow you with their jumps, leaps, cartwheels, back bends and so much more. We bet you never saw a mermaid swing on the bars before! Our amazing gymnasts have been practicing different routines, especially astounding us with their floor routine that showcases their awesome flexibility and feats of strength. We are so impressed with how quickly they are learning to balance on the beam, flip around the bars and jump over the vault. Everyone is having so much fun preparing for the big day. There are tons of dance moves, Little Mermaid songs and of course – super cool gymnastics tricks.
We are very proud of everything they have accomplished this summer!
Exciting News From Senior Camp! By: Ashley Levy & Shayna Feldgus
The past 5 weeks in Senior Camp have been fun-filled and fabulous! Our campers have worked hard with their bunks and are also enjoying their time together as CITs here at Briarwood. So many smiling faces! Around camp they’ve enjoyed everything from s’mores to West Chester Volleyball to Steal the Dino. The kids had an amazing softball game against the Upper Boys Softball Club as well as an incredible start to our Coed 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Trip highlights have included the Super CIT tubing trip, the 1st year bowling/laser tag trip and 2nd year Hershey trip! The Super CITs had an eventful week this week as well – that’s why we call them The Super Days – with the beach plus Tyler plus a trip to Hershey Park! We don’t want to rush the summer but we are really looking forward to more fun at camp plus trips to the beach and Dorney Park! Lots of amazing memories to be made by our entire CIT crew this summer!

If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day. Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.

While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
Everyone should apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
We have a lost and found at camp. It gets pretty full this time of year. Campers’ items should be marked or labeled before they come to camp.
