From Mike and Matt
Time flies when you’re having fun! We had another amazing week—the Busy Bees put on an UNBELIEVABLE show, the CITs enjoyed the beach, EVERYONE loved Carnival (Massive inflatables! Fun rides! Great games! Face painting!), the Gymnastics Show was awesome, Lower Camp and Upper Camp did their thing (actually — they did a TON of their things) and now all the camp has left is Color War (Go Blue Pop! Go Gold Rock!), Briarwood’s 38th Birthday Celebration, Busy Bee Graduation, the Campwide Epic But Totally Optional Wiffleball Tournament, Briarwood Set a Record Week, Tie Dye Tuesday, Mystery Day, the Briarwood Marathon, the CIT/Super CIT Dance and on and on . . . Until next week! – M&M
The Bears By Evan Glickman
The Bears are having a grand ol’ time and it’s hard to believe we are finishing the 6th week! We have had so much fun hanging out, doing activities and becoming great friends. Each Bear is unique and has found their favorite activity at Briarwood. Holden is always up for mini golf with some gimp in his hands. Speaking of gimp, Hugh is a gimp master and can be found shooting baskets on the basketball court. Michael G. is our gaga champ. Lucas plays soccer like a pro, we wouldn’t be surprised if he plays for the Union one day. Preston aka Prestonian is an all around sports guy whether it’s basketball or tennis or baseball, he’s in. Sammy aka Pickles (he loves pickles) is an art guy and super creative. Michael H. is the first one in at swim and his timing is impeccable. Will loves mini golf and is number one when it comes to getting a hole in one. Mac aka Mac Attack aka Mac and cheese is our tennis pro with baseball coming in a close second. Andrew loves to play newcomb any time of day. Connor has football fever and when asked to play he’s always a strong yes. Leo can be found tearing up the zip line after climbing the rock wall. Well, there you have it. The Bears in a nutshell. We’re doing great things at camp and having fun. It’s an honor for Chase (JC) and I to be their counselors and spending the summer with them at Briarwood, 30 acres of fun in the sun.

From the Busy Bee Show (to the tune of My Favorite Things, lyrics by Associate Director / Busy Bee Director Anne Witkin):
Gaga and tennis and swimming with splashes / Bright sunny mornings with smiles for miles / Art projects headed home tied up with string / These are a few of my favorite camp things!
Drama and boating and jumper galore / Everyday we wish for more / Boomer who hugs up like an angel with wings / These are a few of my favorite camp things!
When the vans leave/And doors close/And I’m feeling sad / I simply remember my favorite camp things and then I don’t feel so bad!
The Fabulous Flamingos By: Aliza Stepansky
The 1st grade Flamingos are having a blast this summer at Briarwood Day Camp! The girls have enjoyed so many activities these past six weeks and can’t wait to make more memories together in the weeks to come. Sammy has been swimming like a fish in the pool. Grace has mastered her climbing skills by climbing to the top of the rock wall. Marin did an amazing job showing of her skills in the gymnastics show. Coco is practicing and preparing for her performance starring in the drama show. At nature, Silver loves to spend her time playing with the cute Briarwood bunnies! In sports, Lana dominates in gaga by showing off her fast moves while Gwen speeds through the field to score goals in soccer. Sophie and Serena have been seeing how high they can get jumping on the jumper. Marlowe and Nora love to be creative and make beautiful creations at art. The Flamingos thrive when they are together spending time with their friends. They love Briarwood because of the wide range of things to do! From drama and gymnastics to mini golf and soccer, there is something for everyone. Lexi (JC) Emmi (Super CIT) and I are so happy we get to spend the summer with these incredible girls!!!
SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS:
• If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day. Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.
• Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.
• While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
• Apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
• Please label all clothing and personal items. That said — and because we know
kids — our Lost and Found is located by the Sports Center on Upper Field.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAMP IF HE/SHE is NOT FEELING WELL
MEET EVEN MORE OF OUR WONDERFULLY AMAZING STAFF!
Can you believe it? We present even more senior staff members that have not yet been
profiled in the Briarwood Bugle.
MAKENZIE KOPEW has been a part of the Briarwood family for the past 15 summers. Makenzie, who just happens to be a Gold Color War Captain, started off as a four year old Starling in the Busy Bees. Her favorite thing about Briarwood is the close friendships she has made at camp. During the offseason she attends Penn State. Mackenzie’s favorite food is sushi and the last book she read was It Ends With Us. If she were an animal she would be a monkey! Most people don’t know that Makenzie did all-star cheer for 10 years!
JIM WALTZ is another long time member of Briarwood’s crew! Jim, senior counselor to the 1st grade Sharks, has spent 11 years at Briarwood and his 3 kids attend camp here as well. His favorite things about Briarwood are all of the fun events throughout the summer, playing with the kids and all of the wonderful staff. During the offseason, Jim is a teacher in Philadelphia. If he could go anywhere in the world, he would go to Australia. If he were an animal, he would be a shark… how fitting!!
