Check out our latest Briarwood Bugle! You can read it below or see it in glorious color and with photos here.

Briarwood Bugle 2024
Week 3

From Mike and Matt
Sometimes we think camp can’t get any better . . . and then it does! We had another great (and steamy!) week. Our campers smiled and laughed as they played, swam, created and enjoyed themselves all over camp.

And also — Wednesday Themeday was Crazy Hat Day (and the return of the Lower Camp Crazy Hat Parade!), it was Tie Dye Week at Nature, our CITs and Super CITs went on some great trips, we played some fun (and cooling) water games like Bucket Head and Drip, Drip, Drench, we enjoyed the return of intercamp sports – and all around camp, you could see and hear bunks practicing their bunk shows.

We have a ton going on in the next few weeks—Lower Camp Bunk Shows, Upper Camp Bunk Shows, Halloween in July, the Fishing Derby, Goofy Day, the Briarwood Semi-Invitational Mini Golf Tournament (actually everyone is invited)—plus all of our awesome, regularly scheduled program—art, sports, swimming, gymnastics, nature, rock wall and much, much more! Join us!

SENIOR CAMP SHENANIGANS by Shayna Feldgus and Mia Usatin
Hello from Senior Camp! The CITs had a blast at Dorney Park last week. There were no lines, awesome food and even better company! You could find the CITs riding rollercoasters like Talon and Hydra, going on the log flume, or winning a bunch of arcade games. At camp, we have been playing a plethora of sports, practicing bunk shows, making new friends and helping out with all of the bunks around camp. This week we went to Hershey Park, we tubed down the Delaware and we went to Bowlero for bowling and laser tag! We are looking forward to more trips, laughs and life long memories.

THE LOVELY DOVES by Alex Goldberg
The Doves have been soaring around camp during the third week of Briarwood! We are having fun at EVERY activity! Junior Counselor Alyssa and I have loved the pool during this heat wave! During instructional swim, Palmer and Blake have been making splashes. Taylor and Ryan F. are tearing up the basketball court with their dribbling skills. Parker and Bella are no strangers to the stage, and are practicing our Bunk Show dance, “Girls Just Wanna Have a Girl Party”. The Drama Club is excited to have Olivia, Quinn, Sophie, and Lucia participating this year. In Art, Callista, Emma, and Ryan J. love to create with gimp! Meanwhile, Callie and Julia are stars at wiffleball. Aside from all the camp activities, we have loved laughing while doing karaoke, making up dances, and eating snacks. We can’t wait to see what the rest of summer brings!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR COUNSELORS OF THE WEEK!
Ashley Kelly – Senior Staff
Ethan Derstine – Junior Staff

SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS:
• If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day. Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.
• Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.
• While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
• Apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
• Please label all clothing and personal items. That said — and because we know
kids — our Lost and Found is located by the Sports Center on Upper Field.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAMP IF HE/SHE is NOT FEELING WELL

MEET OUR WONDERFULLY AMAZING STAFF! PART III

We return with profiles of more senior staff members at Briarwood Day Camp!

JESS PHILLIPS has been a part of the Briarwood family since 2011 and we welcome her back as a senior counselor for the Ladybugs! During the offseason, Jess attends Penn State University, majoring in education and where she is on the club cheer team. Her favorite parts about Briarwood are volleyball, seeing all of her friends, and the macaroni and cheese. She loves to watch Bridgerton and if she could be any animal she would be a sea turtle. With Bunk Shows right around the corner, Jess says that she can perform EVERY bunk show from when she was in 4th grade to now. We’d love to see it!!

MACKENZIE WILSON is spending her 1st summer here at Briarwood Day Camp and she loves how welcoming and friendly everyone has been. During the off season, she works in special education. On the weekends, she loves to cheer her 2 kids on in their sports that they play. Her favorite show is The Office because it’s funny and she loves all of the characters! If she could go anywhere in the world, she would go to the Maldives.

RENE ATKINSON joins the Briarwood family this summer as the senior counselor of the Orioles. During the offseason, last week’s Counselor of the Week teaches Kindergarten and choreographs her school musicals and also loves to help out in her community. She loves Briarwood because she gets to swim twice a day! Rene’s favorite food is mangoes and her favorite TV show is Parks and Recreation. If she could go anywhere she’d go to Fiji and if she could be an animal, she would be a dassie. [Ed. note: a dassie is also known as a rock hyrax. It is a medium sized terrestrial mammal native to Africa and the Middle East.]

PAM TANENBAUM, after (too many!) years away, returns for her 7th year at Briarwood this summer! Her favorite thing about Briarwood is the awesome staff. During the offseason, she teaches Spanish at Holicong Middle School. She loves to eat soup. It is her favorite food! Pam’s favorite show is Friends and if she could go anywhere it would be to Hawaii. She played tennis in college and if she could be any animal, she would be a bird so that she could fly.

MATT GREEN is glad to be back at Briarwood for his 16th summer. In the offseason, he attends Penn as a student, but claims he is a masked vigilante by night. When he finds time to read, he loves to read Dr. Seuss and his favorite is Green Eggs & Ham. On his downtime, he likes to relax by watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. If he were an animal, he would be a worm and if he could travel anywhere he would go to Siberia.

Quick quiz:
Q. What’s more fun than a day at Briarwood?
