Briarwood Bugle 2024
Week 4

From Mike and Matt
Can you believe that camp is halfway done? We sure can’t! We had another amazing week—Lower and Upper Camp Bunk Shows (great dancing and even better smiles), Halloween in July (fantastic costumes!), Wednesday Themeday – Disney/Marvel Day, tie dying and much, much more.

We’ve got more amazingness next week – Wednesday Themeday is Hawaiian Shirt Day (always a photo favorite!), Nature hosts the Briarwood Fishing Derby, Friday is Goofy Day, we’ve got our Upper Camp Boys, Upper Camp Girls and 3rd Grade Boys Totally Optional 3 on 3 Basketball tournaments plus the usual awesomeness. And still to come: Busy Bee Show, Gymnastics Show, Drama Show, Carnival, Color War, Mystery Day, the list goes on and on. Can’t wait!

And on another note, we wanted to say thank you to our camp families and staff. It takes a village to make this camp go and we appreciate everyone’s thoughtfulness, dedication, kindness and enthusiasm. We appreciate everything!

Loveable Ladybugs by Jess Phillips & Abby DiPentino
Our Ladybugs have been having an amazing four weeks! Aubrey has been learning so much at swim and loving the slide with her friends! Mia and Gwen are loving archery and even popped balloons there last week! Lilly has been working on her skills at gymnastics. The first Ladybug to catch a fish at nature was Savanna and we are so proud of her! We can’t wait to see Natalie, Lexi and Anna in this year’s production of Frozen at Drama Club! Annabelle is a beast on the soccer field! Farrah loves to show Abby and I her jumps on the jumper. Olivia loved practicing our bunk show. We also can’t wait to see Charlotte in the Gymnastics Show! Philippa has really shown off her skills at gaga. Our CITs, Audrey and Lucy, have had the best time hanging out with us! Abby and I are having the best summer ever with these loveable Ladybugs!

BRIARWOOD STAFF MEMBERS OF THE WEEK:

Senior Staff: Sophia Levy
Junior Staff: Caroline Familant

Congratulations!

The Boisterous Bulldogs by Evan Bernstein, A.J. Berkowitz and John McLaughlin
The Bulldogs are off to a hot start this summer! Nolan, Sawyer, Sam, Brayden, Zach, Gus and Brandon have been smashing it in the Gaga pit. Ryan L., Ryan W. and Lucas have been loving kickball. Cooper, Max, Tommy and Ryan W. can be found skillfully running around on the pickleball court. Staying cool in the pool has been a joy. We worked extremely hard on our Bunk Show routine and we were happy to show it off this week! Tie-dying at nature was a blast and we were able to make some awesome stuff! We can’t wait for the rest of the summer!

SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS:
• If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day. Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.
• Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.
• While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
• Apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
• Our lost and found is located behind the sports shed. Please label your camper’s items!
• Did you miss a Bugle? You can find all of this summer’s Bugles in the news section of our website.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAMP IF HE/SHE IS NOT FEELING WELL

MEET OUR WONDERFULLY AMAZING STAFF! PART III
We return with profiles of more senior staff members at Briarwood Day Camp

MEGHAN BOWERS joins us at Briarwood for her first summer! She loves that the camp is screen free and all the different sports/activities that are offered. When she is not at camp, she loves to kick back and watch a movie or any good medical drama! During the school year, she teaches preschool at St. Andrews. She is torn between a polar bear and a giraffe for her favorite animal. If she could travel anywhere, she would go to the Netherlands.

JASON LANG is enjoying his 1st summer at Briarwood and has loved how welcoming the staff is! Jason is a student at University of South Carolina. In his spare time, he loves to ski and snowboard. He loves eating mashed potatoes and watching The Office. If he were an animal, he would be a bald eagle and if he could travel anywhere, he would go to London! He used to run cross country and track in high school, so challenge him to a race!

CHARLI FRANKEL is enjoying her second summer at Briarwood. The Frankels rescued Charli from the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (dvgrr.org) in 2023 and she is happily living her best life! Her favorite things about camp are walking around and seeing campers, swimming and listening to Mike’s announcements at the end of the day.
