Preschoolers are energetic sponges! Summer camp is the perfect place for kids 3-5 to learn, grow, explore and more.
At Briarwood Day Camp, our preschoolers (we call them Busy Bees) smile, laugh, play and have fun while – without realizing it – working towards important developmental milestones. Part of our “secret sauce” is that our campers are learning while having fun and they are having fun while they learning.
How do we do it? We continue to explain in this four part series.
Part I – Group Games & Team Fun and Creative Arts & Crafts
Part II – Outdoor Adventure & Play and Cognitive Development & Critical Thinking
Part III – Music & Movement and Physical Development & Coordination
Part IV – Creativity & Imagination and Reflection, Rest & Relaxation Time
Children love exploring the outdoors and Briarwood offers them endless opportunities to enjoy nature and get active. Activities like fishing, boating, playing in our pirate ship and castle and exploring nature trails bring the excitement of the great outdoors to life.
• Nature Exploration: Whether they’re collecting acorns, observing bugs, or simply running through a grassy field, the outdoor environment is full of exciting discoveries for young children. It helps them connect with nature and learn about the world around them in a hands-on way.
• Water Time: For the Busy Bees, whether it’s playing in the misters/sprinklers, water balloon toss, or their two swim sessions a day, water play brings endless fun to a camper’s day. And swimming is such an important life skill. Plus – water play certainly keeps our kids cool on hot days!
Preschoolers are constantly learning new skills. Briarwood’s Busy Bee Program offers an abundance of activities that engage young children’s brains, encouraging the development of their cognitive skills.
• Problem Solving: With gentle help from our staff, Briarwood campers learn a variety of problem solving skills, whether it’s climbing the cargo net, navigating the playground or working with a peer to resolve a conflict.
• Enhancing Memory: Many camp games and activities require children to remember rules, sequences, or steps, strengthening their memory and cognitive abilities. For example, recalling steps in an art project, bunk show dance or following directions for a game of gaga helps them practice retention and focus.
• Boosting Language Skills: Through singing songs, storytelling, or simply interacting with camp counselors and peers, children expand their vocabulary and communication abilities. Language skills flourish as children engage in conversations and learn new words through structured activities.
At Briarwood, our Busy Bee Program for 3-5 year olds is a blend of adventure, creativity, growth teamwork and carefree fun. Our campers experience a sense of happiness, belonging and excitement that they’ll carry with them long after the camp session ends. From sports to swimming to arts and crafts, from nature to drama to outdoor adventures, camp is the ultimate place for little ones to make friends, play, grow and have a blast!
